On the occasion of World Environment Day, I would like to share with you a small story – Going back to the roots!
My husband and I have always been fond of home cooked food. Early marital life went well – from hunting a house to buying fancy tiffins etc. But, as days passed by, we changed cities, home but the tiffin boxes remained the same along with the yummy home cooked meals. In the middle of all this, one of our dearest aunt was diagnosed with cancer. The cause for the disease was unknown. However, excessive use of plastic containers for heating and reheating the food in micro wave could not be overlooked as one of the cause.
Today, with changing lifestyles, use of plastic boxes have become integral to our lives. Reheating of cooked meals is convenient but detrimental to our health. Yet we choose convenience over health. Apart from this visible damage we mindlessly contribute to the dump of plastic waste which will remain in the environment for over a century. Indian food is generally full of aromatic spices, oil and ghee, which when in plastic boxes heated in microwave can surely not be good for health.
Cancer is curable and with God’s grace our aunt is now well. But the one thing that is non-curable is our habit; habit to choose comfort over health. It is high time that we now go back to our roots. Let us wisely choose what is beneficial to us and our ecosystem. Because our planet is suffering!
Commit to a plastic free tomorrow! #BeatPlasticPollution
